Overview
This course presents the opportunity to gain and develop practical production skills in film, television and live action and to keep pace with the ever-changing technology and practices. Building on existing experience and skills you have learned through working or studying in a creative environment, this course will provide you with a comprehensive overview of the practical management and process for creative production. You might have a short film script or a documentary project that you wish to produce and need the know-how and skills to manage the project. You may have a well-developed project that you wish to bring into the course. Alternatively, you will be provided with project material. Dates + Times Dates for the January 2027 intake will be announced here by late September 2026. In previous intakes, classes took place as follows: 9 x Tuesday evenings online 4 x Saturdays in person
What You'll Learn
- Learn about the roles and functions of individual crew members during pre-production, production and post-production - Appraise studio practices, pipelines and processes - Acquire skills for managing a production and crew towards completion, including preparing a production schedule and budget from initial concept through to final delivery (non-fiction / TV / documentary and short narrative film)
Requirements
Undergraduate qualification of 2nd Class Honours or higher at Honours Degree level. Applicants without a Level 8 qualification may be considered based on their prior experience and learning through our RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) process. Some prior experience in a related discipline is required. A basic knowledge of Excel, or any other spreadsheet software, is required.
Course Outcomes
Future careers could include: Production manager, production co-ordinator, production roles in the relevant industry, line producer.
