Overview
The course explores the dramaturgy, form and functions of film music, with particular attention to the relationship between music and image. Students examine key principles of film music development and analyse the work of different filmmakers. Films from different periods and countries are compared in order to identify major approaches and trends. The course develops students’ ability to analyse and critically evaluate film music, its artistic qualities and its cultural context.
What You'll Learn
Students will be able to critically and systematically analyse and evaluate film music and soundtracks in writing and orally; identify and explain key principles, artistic approaches, styles and historical trends in film music; compare film music across different periods, countries and cultural traditions; analyse Lithuanian and international film music in intercultural, inter-genre, sociocultural and broader artistic contexts; present and defend professional, well-argued interpretations of specific works, creators and film music phenomena; and apply theoretical knowledge in practical professional and creative contexts.
