Overview
Exploring new creative workflows The creative industries are undergoing rapid transformation as generative AI introduces new ways of developing and producing film. Rather than focusing on fixed methods, the course emphasises exploration and experimentation - investigating how emerging tools can inform and expand film development, visualisation, and production. Working with AI brings renewed attention to core artistic questions such as authorship, control, and intention. Students are encouraged to critically engage with these dynamics while developing their own creative approaches. Building knowledge through practice The course introduces new methods and perspectives that reflect how film production is evolving. Through hands-on work, students develop practical experience with generative tools and workflows, focusing on how they can be meaningfully applied within a filmic context. A significant part of the teaching and supervision is delivered by industry professionals, ensuring a close connection to current practices. Generative and hybrid production Students explore both generative filmmaking as a creative foundation and hybrid workflows, where AI-driven elements are combined with live-action material within the production process. The programme provides access to facilities such as the AI Frontier Lab, where students can experiment with different approaches - from generative techniques to workflows that integrate AI into more traditional film production. A dedicated creative environment Students take part in all teaching and develop their projects within a dedicated creative workspace. With access to professional equipment and production facilities, they are able to test ideas, experiment, and realise their projects in practice. The environment is designed to support collaboration and exchange, and students typically form strong connections across the international group.
What You'll Learn
The student should acquire knowledge and understanding of: - Film development and production processes supported by generative AI, including visualisation, concept development, and emerging workflows. - Hybrid filmmaking as the integration of generative and live-action methods within the production process. - Relevant theories and methods within filmmaking, including storytelling, dramaturgy, character development, and visual design. Ethical considerations, intellectual property, and copyright in relation to the use of AI in creative production. - The role of generative technologies in current and future film and media industries.
Requirements
VIA Film & Transmedia requires that you have an English level of B2 or higher. To ensure the best possible learning environment, the programme is open to applicants within film, media, or related fields, who have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies. Selected software and tools relevant to the course will be made available to students free of charge. Additional tools and services may require individual subscriptions if students wish to explore specific technologies in greater depth.
Course Outcomes
The course comprises three modules, each equivalent to 10 ECTS points. Students write an individual report at the end of each module, which is graded using the Danish 7-point scale. The student will receive a diploma upon completion of the course.
