Overview
Through theoretical lectures and practical assignments, students are taught to discover the idea, theme, and main character line of their documentary film, and to formulate and articulate the chosen story. Based on an analysis of documentary films by Lithuanian and international filmmakers, students are introduced to the genre and stylistic possibilities of documentary storytelling, as well as the aesthetic explorations of contemporary documentary cinema. Students delve into social documentary, documentary research, problem formulation, and the search for forms of expression for the theme. Later the attention is focused on the form and aesthetics of creative documentary.
What You'll Learn
"Students will acquire theoretical knowledge about the diversity of genres and styles in social documentary filmmaking and will learn to apply this knowledge in practice when creating social documentary films. Students will acquire theoretical knowledge about the diversity of contemporary documentary film forms and aesthetics and will learn to effectively select the form and aesthetics for their creative projects. When creating a documentary film, they will be able to obtain all the necessary permits for filming and consent to be filmed. Students will learn to conduct documentary research, identify topics of relevance to society, formulate problems, and select creative and artistic means of expression in documentary film that are appropriate to the topic. Working with other members of the film crew, they will learn to manage the filming process and create a short documentary film on a social topic and a documentary film on a given topic. Be able to formulate a documentary film concept and communicate it in writing and orally. Be able to analyze their study and creative processes and describe them in an articulate and structured manner in their semester self-reflection. Will be able to analyze and evaluate their own and their classmates' creative projects, constructively express and accept criticism. "
